WHO IS THIS THEA CHICK? (About Me and what kinds of dark romantic fantasy do I write)
I write dark romantasy and dark fantasy romance featuring emotionally scarred heroines, morally grey or dangerous love interests, and slow-burn relationships shaped by danger, obsession, and survival. While each series explores a different corner of the dark fantasy romance spectrum, all of my books focus on characters who are broken, hunted, or dangerous—and the love that complicates their survival.
I’m a gal who writes like someone’s chasing her. Have since I’ve been a kid and submitted my first short story to a Canadian publisher at twelve years old. I call my little ditties fiction to the left of mainstream and pen them with my black lab at my feet and miniature gargoyles on my desk to protect the muse. And I ALWAYS have a cup of tea on the go or going cold.
I’ve been an editor, a freelancer, and a teacher, but fiction is my passion.
Whatever I write, it’s slanted to dark characters with emotional trauma. Sometimes it’s dark romantasy, sometimes it’s paranormal and urban fantasy, but always it tends to move slightly off center from the general tropes and markets while it guides the reader through some dark elements toward the light of self-discovery or healing.
I have several fantasy series:
The Iron King’s Assassin
A dark romantasy series featuring lethal fae courts, a fierce assassin heroine, morally grey fae love interests, and a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance driven by power, betrayal, and survival.
Counterfeit Psychic
A dark paranormal urban fantasy romance series centered on a fraudulent psychic, a dangerous wolf shifter, and a slow-burn romance unfolding amid murder investigations, hidden magic, and escalating
Isabella Hush
A dark, gritty urban fantasy romance series following an underdog heroine on the run from a violent past, navigating street-level magic, moral compromise, and a dangerous slow-burn romance rooted in survival and trust.
My work has appeared in the following but is not limited to them because I can get lazy about updating this page.
One of my biggest highlights from my career was guest authoring at HalCon SciFi Con along with notables like Patricia Briggs and Guy Gavriel Kay
